Reports
of child abuse in Utah County continue to increase. Orem City
Police Department averages eight to ten new cases of sexual
abuse each week and many more cases of abuse go unreported.
The Family Support and Treatment Center offers prevention
education programs to local schools in an effort to help children
acquire the skills to protect themselves from being victimized.
The Center also offers the Crisis Respite Nursery as a resource
to prevent child abuse when families are under extreme stress.
This nursery provides emergency respite care to families in
crisis. The Center strives to
maximize
funding through our many dedicated volunteers, the majority
of whom work in the nursery. The volunteers make it possible
for the nursery to serve far more families than would be possible
with the staff alone.
The
Family Support and Treatment Center believes children are
our most precious resource and secure, happy, well-adjusted
children are our highest priority. As we work to prevent child
abuse through education, and to heal families and break abusive
cycles through therapy, we feel a partnership with the community
we serve.
Future
goals for the Center include offering satellite locations
of the Crisis Respite Nursery to make it more accessible to
families outside of the Orem area. Also the Center has plans
to hire a recreation therapist.
In-Kind
Donations
In-Kind donations are vital in helping to stretch the actual
dollars required to maintain the agency's services. Toys,
clothes, paper products, and office supplies can all benefit
the agency and those whom it serves. Community support is
essential in this process.
Cash
Contribution
As
a private nonprofit agency, the Family Support and Treatment
Center appreciates cash contributions from concerned citizens.
Financial contributions go a long way toward lighting a child's
face with a smile, helping a teen learn to deal more effectively
with the pressures of growing up, and teaching an adult about
her/his value as an individual. For those who cannot express
their gratitude, we say "thanks."
