The
Family Support and Treatment Center believes children are our
most precious resource and secure, happy, well-adjusted children
are our highest priority. As we work to prevent child abuse
through education, and to heal families and break abusive cycles
through therapy, we feel a partnership with the community we
serve.
The
Family Support and Treatment Center offers interested citizens
an opportunity to channel their desire to make a difference
in the community. Volunteer positions are available in the crisis
respite nursery and support group programs. The primary need
is for volunteers in the nursery which provides emergency respite
care to families in crisis.
Becoming
a Volunteer
Volunteers
are needed to provide one-on-one, positive interaction with
the children. We ask for two-three hours a week for a four-month
period. Volunteering takes place seven days a week from 9:00
a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Volunteers under 16 will need to have an
adult accompany them.
Volunteers
also need to complete an application for a background check
and
bring
a form of picture identification (driver's license or state-issued
ID) to be copied for our records. Volunteers may volunteer
in the nursery during the time the background check is being
completed.
We
encourage students who are considering child-related careers
to volunteer; it is a wonderful opportunity to gain experience!
Service Project Opportunity
There
is also opportunity for groups to do special projects. Groups
can come in one time to play with the children, clean the
nursery, or do drives to collect supplies or food for the
nursery. This is especially helpful around the holidays.
